After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we'll start our sightseeing tour of Alexandria. Our first stop will be the impressive statue of Pompey, which was created centuries ago to honor this famous leader. This towering statue is made of a special metal called bronze, and it's a sight to behold.
We will then proceed to the Citadel of Qaitbay, a defensive stronghold constructed in the fifteenth century by Sultan Al-Ashraf Sayf al-Din Qa'it Bay. The Citadel is a fascinating spot to explore and is situated at the mouth of the Eastern Harbour on the eastern side of Pharos Island's northern tip.
We'll also visit the Alexandria Library, which was once one of the largest and most significant libraries in the ancient world. The Library was part of a larger research institution called the Mouseion, which was dedicated to the Muses, the nine goddesses of the arts. The Library housed many papyrus scrolls, and estimates of the number of scrolls housed there at any given time range from 40,000 to 400,000 at its height.
On the last day of our trip, we'll enjoy a delicious lunch in a lovely restaurant before returning to our hotel.
